Mission Statement
 

Our mission is to empower students to achieve both academic excellence and licensure/certification in Nursing, Emergency Medical Technology (EMT), Medical Asssisting, or Dental Assisting.
Hillcrest High School is committed to excellence.  Our Health Careers small learning community prepares students to be professionals at entry level health career positions upon graduation from Hillcrest.  Students will also be well prepared to continue their post secondary education. 
Curriculum is geared toward health careers in all subject areas beginning in grade 9.  Health Career core courses begin in grade 10.  In 11th and 12th grade classes have clinical affiliations outside the school, related to their area of specialization. 

 

Health Careers

A small learning community offering a rigorous program that includes all academic studies leading to a Regents high school diploma and a legal certification
and/or NYS licensure in Licensed Practical Nursing, EMT, Medical Assisting, or Dental Assisting. 



Program Overview:

Grade 9
Accelerated academic studies and health career curriculum

Grade 10
Health Core - 1 full year

Grade 11- Choice of 1 specialty area:
Practical Nursing*
Dental Assisting
Medical Assisting
Emergency Medical Technology

Grade 12 - Advanced Specialty Area (continued)
Practical Nursing
Dental Assisting
Medical Assisting
Emergency Medical Technology

All students will have the opportunity to participate in:
Honors Level Classes
Advanced Placement Courses
All Hillcrest Teams & Clubs
College Now Classes

* subject to entrance exam, interview, and class standing

Students will be required to obtain the following as part of this program:
• CPR Certification

•Membership in HOSA

Students will also:
• Participate in program dress code and professional day uniform attire

• Be given assistance in preparing for state exams in health related areas

• Follow the rules and regulations of the State Education Department for the area of specialization

• Complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service per semester

• Participate in the Nursing Program which extends into the summer of junior year, and the summer following graduation
