Mission Statement
 

Our mission is to empower students to achieve both academic excellence and licensure/certification in Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technology (EMT), Medical Assisting, or Medical Technician.
Hillcrest High School is committed to excellence.  Our Health Careers Small Learning Community prepares students to be professionals at entry level health career positions upon graduation from Hillcrest.  Students will also be well prepared to continue their post secondary education .  
Health Core classes begin in grade 9. In 11th and 12th grade classes have clinical affiliations outside the school, related to their area of specialization.

Program Overview:

Grade 9-Health Core 1 full year                                    Grade 10: continue academic courses

Grade 11- Choice of 1 specialty area:                           Grade 12-Advanced Specialty Area   
Nursing Assistant                                                            Nursing Assistant
Medical Technology                                                        Medical Technology
Medical Office Assistant                                                 Medical Office Assistant
Emergency Medical Technology                                    Emergency Medical Technology

All students will have the opportunity, if they meet academic requirements, to participate in:
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Honors Level Classes,
Advanced Placement Courses, All Hillcrest Teams & Clubs
College Now Classes and Queensborough Career Pathways Consortium**



Students will be required to obtain the following as part of this program:
• CPR Certification

•Membership in HOSA

Students will also:
• Participate in program dress code and professional day uniform attire

• Be given assistance in preparing for state exams in health related areas

• Follow the rules and regulations of the State Education Department for the area of specialization

• Complete a minimum of 20 hours of community service per semester
