Mission
Statement
The
Humanities College Preparatory Institute aims to capture the
imagination of the more serious, college-bound high school student.
We believe in a threefold plan for success:
1) rigorous academic approach to freshman and sophomore
years based on a preset curriculum
2) creative, inquiry-based, interdisciplinary junior
and senior years where a series of advanced elective courses will
encourage self-expression and problem solving
3) focus on the outside world of colleges, cultural
centers and museums to inspire a constant sense of thinking of the
future and understanding of the world.
Beyond progressive academic
curriculum we strongly believe that the success of the Humanities
College Preparatory Institute will depend on two additional unique
features: a close parent-institute cooperation, and a steady stream
of outside partnerships.
Our incoming students will participate in an
introductory freshman year Humanities elective. Our graduating
students will leave with a portfolio of four college-level essays,
one PSAT score, two SAT scores, four scholarship entries, up to 12
college credits, AP classes, a Regents diploma, community service or
internship, partial senior year at York College and a guided senior
year college application process.
