2/7/2023 Junior Parent Night - College & Career Office Attention Juniors Junior Parent Night has been moved to Wednesday February 15th at 5pm virtually. This event will be for you to dive into the College & Career process and learn how to prepare for Senior year. This event is mandatory for all Juniors and a parent/guardian to attend. 2/7/2023 Family Desi Night Our date for Desi Night has been changed from Feb 16 to March 2nd. Kindly stop by room 480 A to get new permission slips from Ms. Nijjar. We encourage you to bring your family members for this evening of fun and celebration.

2/6/2023 Respect For All Week Hillcrest students and staff:

All students and staff are encouraged to participate in Respect for All Week: February 13-17, 2023. "Every February, the New York City Department of Education, organizes Respect for All week, an initiative that helps students respect their peers of different races, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, gender expressions, and sexual orientations."

Hillcrest will be participating in the following themes:
Monday, February 13 Pride, A Day of Silence, take a vow of silence in an effort to address the problem of anti-LGBTQ behavior.
Tuesday, February 14 - Anti-Bullying Awareness: Wear blue
Wednesday, February 15 - Be an Ally by learning and fighting any systems of oppression
Thursday, February 16 - Religion and Race: reach out to a person of a different religion and/or race and start a new friendship.
Friday, February 17 - No One Eats Alone day; connect with your peers during lunch time in order to combat isolation.
2/6/2023 Senior Assembly Seniors:

There will be a senior assembly on Thursday, February 9 period 1 in the auditorium. You will receive information about graduation, prom, yearbook, college, and much more. If you need a pass for your period 1 class, you may pick one up outside room 332B.
2/6/2023 Prom Seniors, If you are interested in attending the 2023 senior prom, please pick up a consent form in room 332B. Prom consent forms and money orders will be collected until May 5th, in room 332B periods 7 and 8 with Ms. Recinos.
2/6/2023 Sports PSAL Congratulation to the Girls indoor track team for having an excellent Queens Championship meet.
The Girls team won 5 medals. Shout out to Kiera Davis who is the 55m Queens champion.
Shout out to the relay team (Tanasha Brown, Kiera Davis, Alayna Desousa, Tieara Cargill and Amanda Rosario) who finish second place in the 4 by 200 relay. Nadej Burke finish third in the Shot put. Final shout out to the entire team who set new personal best record.
2/6/2023 Girls Indoor Track Hello Hillcrest. I would like to congratulate the Girls Indoor track team A, for successfully coming second at the Queensborough Championships. A shoutout goes to Alayna, Amanda, Tanasha and Kiera. I would also like to recognize one of our seniors: Jean Figaro on the 55 meter dash, he came 6th overall at the Queensborough Championships . Go Hawks.
2/6/2023 Mock Trial Team Good Luck to the Hillcrest Mock Trial Plaintiff Team as they take on Flushing HS today at 4 pm at the Queens County Court! You know what that means? Bad news for Flushing!

2/2/2023 Humanities Dinner and Dance Attention Humanities Students. Do not forget to hand in your permission slips for the Dinner and Dance tomorrow. This event is for all the students who are on Honor Roll at the end of Term 1. See Ms. Ramjan in 380 A if you have any questions. Names of eligible students are posted on the bulletin board by the Humanities office.
2/2/2023 Softball Good morning Hillcrest, Any girls interested in joining the girls Varsity Softball team. There will be an interest meeting today at 3:45 in balcony B. There is no experience necessary to join the Softball team. I forward to seeing all there.
2/2/2023 COSA Senior Dues Senior Dues Package 2 Deadline is March 31st. Please pay for package 2 before the deadline. Payment is $130 and must be money order made out to hillcrest high school. For any other questions see Mr. Rashid in room 332C period 6, 7, or 9.

2/1/2023 Student Life Reminder for STUDENTS-- Students are NOT allowed to order food and have it delivered to the school. It will not be accepted or delivered to you. In addition, students are not allowed to leave the building until the end of his or her school day.
2/1/2023 National Holidays Black History Month- Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to highlighting Black history.

World Hijab Day - World Hijab Day is observed every year on February 1 to honor Muslim women who wear the hijab. It is also a day to urge women of various origins and beliefs to try on the hijab and see what it is like to wear it. Muslim women maintain their modesty by wearing the hijab. Many also use them to safeguard themselves from male harassment. In 2017, New York State declared World Hijab Day, and Theresa May attended an event commemorating the occasion at the House of Commons. In 2021, the Philippines’ House of Representatives designated February 1 as National Hijab Day to foster better understanding and acceptance of the Islamic tradition.

Please wear purple on February 10th to support Council for Unity and P.S. I Love You Day. This day is a day to foster kindness and support and show that mental health is important. Please stop by the table at scanning the week of the 6th to find out how you can participate.
1/31/2023 Open Mic The Academy of Performing and Visual Arts will be hosting an Open Mic in honor of Black History Month on March 2. This month will feature our school's string ensemble. If you are interested in singing, dancing, reading a poem, acting or just attending the show, please stop by 208 for a permission slip.
1/19/2023 Athletic department Attention all boys. The Boys Varsity Volleyball Team will start try outs on February 14th. Try outs will be held in the Main Gym after school. Please find Ms. Ruiz during period 7th in room 203 for more information and paperwork.
